Hi! I’m Grace,

Welcome to my Watson Fellowship blog where I will document my travels and musings on gender, equity, and sustainability in fisheries and aquaculture.

During my Watson I plan to visit Barbados, Tanzania, Spain, South Korea, and Japan. In each of these countries, women play a vital role in fishing and experience the industry in a gendered way. Through living in the community and helping with fishing-related work I hope to learn about the gendered dynamics of life in different fishing communities.

One common thread that connects these countries is the consequences of global climate change. I will examine how gender impacts individual vulnerability to climate change and document how fisherwomen are experiencing and adapting to ecological shifts across the world. Understanding how women participate in fishing, what gendered challenges they may face, and how this impacts their lives is essential to creating a sustainable ocean future. How do women relate to the ocean through their work, and what can we learn from them about the link between sustainability and equity?
